Avon and Somerset Police have widened an appeal for CCTV, doorbell and dashcam footage after a man suffered significant head and facial injuries in a late-night assault in Yeovil. The attacker has not been identified.
The force is asking residents, businesses and drivers to check recordings covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue, Northbrook Road, the route towards Hawthorn Road and surrounding areas. Footage does not have to show the assault itself to be useful: recordings of people, vehicles or other activity could help officers establish what happened and build a timeline.
What happened in Yeovil?
The victim was walking between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July, when the assault happened. He was taken to hospital with significant wounds to his face and head.
Police said the man has since been discharged and is recovering. Officers have not confirmed one precise location for the attack, and enquiries are continuing into the route taken by the victim and the movements of both the victim and the unidentified attacker.
Roads and recordings covered by the appeal
Residents living on or close to the named roads are being asked to check home-security systems and doorbell cameras. Businesses may have relevant CCTV, while drivers are being asked to review dashcam recordings showing the roads and nearby routes.
Police said apparently ordinary activity could still help establish the sequence of events. House-to-house enquiries have been completed and available CCTV has been examined, but the force stressed that widening the search does not mean the assault was captured on camera. Police have not said that the attack appeared on any recording reviewed so far.

Anyone who finds potentially relevant footage should preserve it and pass it to officers. Residents and drivers are asked not to delete recordings or allow them to be overwritten.
