Avon and Somerset Police have widened their search for CCTV, doorbell and dashcam footage after a man suffered significant head and facial injuries in a late-night assault in Yeovil.
The attacker has not been identified. Officers are asking residents, businesses and drivers around a group of roads to check recordings that might help establish what happened, even if the assault itself is not visible.
Which Yeovil roads are covered by the appeal?
The appeal includes St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue, Northbrook Road, the route towards Hawthorn Road and surrounding areas. Police have not confirmed one precise location for the attack, and their enquiries are continuing.
Investigators are working to establish where the assault happened, the route taken by the victim, and the movements of both the victim and the unidentified attacker. That is why officers are asking people who live, work or travel through the area to review recordings from late on Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday morning.
Residents are being asked to check home-security systems and doorbell cameras. Drivers should also review dashcam recordings showing the named roads and nearby routes.
When did the assault happen?
The victim was walking when he was attacked between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July.
He was taken to hospital with significant wounds to his face and head. Police say he has since been discharged and is recovering.
Footage showing people, vehicles or other activity during the relevant period could help officers build a sequence of events and trace movements before and after the attack. Recordings showing only ordinary activity on the roads may still be useful.
How to submit possible evidence
House-to-house enquiries have been completed and available CCTV has been examined. However, police have stressed that widening the search does not mean the assault was captured on camera. The force has not said that the attack appeared on any recording reviewed so far.
Anyone who finds potentially relevant footage is asked to preserve it and pass it to officers. Residents and drivers should not delete recordings or allow them to be overwritten.
