Avon and Somerset Police have widened their appeal for CCTV, doorbell and dashcam footage after a man suffered significant head and facial injuries in a late-night assault in Yeovil. The attacker has not been identified, and officers are asking people who live, work or travel around the affected roads to check recordings that could help establish what happened.
The victim was walking when he was attacked between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July. He was taken to hospital with significant wounds to his face and head. Police say he has since been discharged and is recovering.
Search widened across several Yeovil roads
Officers have not confirmed one precise location for the assault. Their enquiries are continuing as they work to establish where the incident happened, the route taken by the victim and the movements of both the victim and the unidentified attacker.
The appeal covers St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue, Northbrook Road, the route towards Hawthorn Road and surrounding areas. Residents are being asked to review footage from home-security systems and doorbell cameras. Drivers are also being urged to check dashcam recordings showing the named roads and nearby routes.
Police say footage does not need to show the assault itself to be useful. Recordings showing people, vehicles or other activity late on Saturday night or during the early hours of Sunday morning could help officers build a sequence of events and trace movements before and after the attack.
What residents and drivers should do
House-to-house enquiries have been completed and available CCTV has been examined. However, police have stressed that widening the search does not mean the assault was captured on camera. The force has not said that the attack appeared on any recording reviewed so far.
Anyone who finds potentially relevant footage should preserve it and pass it to officers. Residents and drivers are asked not to delete recordings or allow them to be overwritten, including footage that appears to show only ordinary activity on the roads during the relevant period.
Anyone who noticed suspicious behaviour is also being urged to contact Avon and Somerset Police by calling 101 and quoting reference 5226211622. Information can also be submitted through the force’s online appeals form.
The original appeal was published by Yeovil Today at 9pm on 24 August 2026 and updated at 2.42am on 25 August 2026.
