Avon and Somerset Police have widened their search for recordings after a man suffered significant head and facial injuries in a late-night assault in Yeovil. Officers are asking residents, businesses and drivers to check footage from St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue, Northbrook Road, the route towards Hawthorn Road and surrounding areas.
The attacker has not been identified. Police are seeking recordings that could help establish what happened, identify movements before and after the incident, and clarify where the assault took place.
What happened in Yeovil?
The victim was walking between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July, when the assault happened. He was taken to hospital with significant wounds to his face and head. Police say he has since been discharged and is recovering.
Officers have not confirmed one precise location for the attack. Enquiries are continuing into the route taken by the victim and the movements of both the victim and the unidentified attacker.
That means footage does not have to show the assault itself to be useful. Recordings of people, vehicles or other activity could help investigators build a timeline around the incident.
Which roads and recordings are covered?
The appeal covers St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue, Northbrook Road, the route towards Hawthorn Road and nearby areas. Residents living on or close to those roads are being asked to check home-security systems and doorbell cameras.
Businesses may have relevant CCTV, while drivers are being asked to review dashcam recordings showing the named roads and nearby routes. Police say apparently ordinary activity could still help establish the sequence of events.
House-to-house enquiries have been completed and available CCTV has been examined. However, police have stressed that widening the search does not mean the assault was captured on camera. The force has not said that the attack appeared on any recording reviewed so far.
