Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for witnesses and video footage after a man suffered serious head and facial injuries in a late-night assault on a route between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road in Yeovil.
The attack happened between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July, police said. The victim was walking when he was attacked by an unknown assailant.
Police investigating wider route
Officers have not identified the precise point where the assault took place. Their current information suggests it happened somewhere along a path covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road.
Because the location has not been established, the appeal extends across the wider area. Police are asking people to check recordings from the route between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road, as well as the roads included in the police information.
What footage officers want to see
Avon and Somerset Police have carried out house-to-house enquiries and reviewed CCTV footage, but the investigation is continuing. Officers want to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the assault and noticed suspicious behaviour.
Residents, drivers and anyone else nearby are being asked to review recordings made between late on Saturday, 25 July, and the early hours of Sunday, 26 July. Police are particularly interested in footage from:
- St John’s Road;
- St Michael’s Avenue;
- Northbrook Road; and
- surrounding locations along the route.
Potential evidence could include home CCTV, doorbell-camera footage and dashcam recordings. It does not necessarily need to show the assault itself to be useful. Recordings showing people, vehicles or activity along the route could help officers establish what happened.
Victim discharged from hospital
The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment for significant facial and head wounds. He has since been discharged and is recovering.
The attacker has not been identified, while the precise location of the assault remains under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to contact Avon and Somerset Police by calling 101 and quoting reference 5226211622. Information can also be submitted through the force’s online appeals form.
