Police are appealing for CCTV, doorbell and dashcam footage after a man suffered serious head and facial injuries in a late-night assault on a route between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road in Yeovil.
The attacker has not been identified, and officers have not yet established the precise point where the assault took place. Avon and Somerset Police are therefore asking residents, drivers and anyone who was in the area to check recordings covering the wider route.
What happened in Yeovil
The assault happened between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July, police said. The victim was walking when he was attacked by an unknown assailant.
Police information currently indicates that the incident happened somewhere along a path covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road. The appeal also extends to surrounding locations along the route between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road because the exact location remains under investigation.
Footage wanted from residents and drivers
Officers have carried out house-to-house enquiries and reviewed CCTV footage, but their investigation is continuing. They want to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the assault and noticed suspicious behaviour.
Recordings made between late on Saturday, 25 July, and the early hours of Sunday, 26 July, could be relevant. Police are particularly interested in footage from:
- St John’s Road
- St Michael’s Avenue
- Northbrook Road
- Surrounding locations along the route
Potential evidence could include home CCTV, doorbell-camera footage and dashcam recordings. It does not need to show the assault itself to be useful. Images showing people, vehicles or activity along the route could help officers establish what happened.
Victim discharged from hospital
The injured man was taken to hospital for treatment for significant facial and head wounds. He has since been discharged and is recovering.
