Avon and Somerset Police have widened their appeal for CCTV, doorbell and dashcam footage after a man suffered significant head and facial injuries during a late-night assault in Yeovil.
The force is asking residents and drivers around St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue, Northbrook Road and the route towards Hawthorn Road to review recordings that could help establish what happened and identify the unknown attacker.
Assault happened in the early hours
The victim was walking when he was attacked between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July. He was taken to hospital with significant wounds to his face and head. Police said he has since been discharged and is recovering.
Investigators have not confirmed one precise location for the assault. They are continuing to establish where the attack happened, the route taken by the victim, and the movements of both the victim and the unidentified attacker.
Police want footage from five roads and nearby areas
The appeal covers St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue, Northbrook Road, the route towards Hawthorn Road and surrounding areas. Footage does not have to show the assault itself to be useful.
Recordings showing people, vehicles or other activity late on Saturday night or during the early hours of Sunday morning could help officers build a sequence of events. Police are particularly asking residents to check home-security systems and doorbell cameras, while drivers are being asked to review dashcam footage covering the named roads and nearby routes.
House-to-house enquiries have been completed and available CCTV has been examined. However, police have stressed that widening the search does not mean the assault was captured on camera. The force has not said that the attack appeared on any recording reviewed so far.
How to share information with police
Officers are examining material that could help trace movements before and after the incident. Anyone who noticed suspicious behaviour is also being urged to contact the force.
Anyone who finds potentially relevant footage should preserve it and pass it to officers. Residents and drivers are asked not to delete recordings or allow them to be overwritten, including footage that appears to show only ordinary activity on the roads during the relevant period.
