Avon and Somerset Police have widened a CCTV appeal across four Yeovil roads after a man suffered significant head and facial injuries in a late-night assault. Officers are asking residents and drivers to check home-security systems, doorbell cameras and dashcams for footage that could help establish what happened and identify the attacker.
The appeal covers St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue, Northbrook Road, the route towards Hawthorn Road and surrounding areas. Police have not confirmed one precise assault location because investigators are still working to establish where the incident happened.
What happened on the Yeovil roads?
The victim was walking when he was attacked by an unknown assailant between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July. He was taken to hospital with significant wounds to his face and head.
Avon and Somerset Police said the man has since been discharged and is recovering. The attacker has not been identified.
Investigators are examining material that could help reconstruct the movements of both the victim and the unidentified attacker. They are also trying to establish the route taken and identify the person responsible.
Why police want footage from before and after the assault
House-to-house enquiries have been completed and available CCTV has been examined. However, police have stressed that the widened appeal does not mean the assault itself was captured on camera.
The force has not said that the attack appeared on any recording reviewed so far. Recordings made late on Saturday night and during the early hours of Sunday morning could still assist the investigation, even if they show only people, vehicles or other activity on the named roads.
Police say such images may help officers build a sequence of events and trace movements before or after the assault. Residents are therefore being asked to review footage from home-security systems and doorbell cameras, while drivers should check dashcam recordings covering the roads and nearby areas.
Anyone who noticed suspicious behaviour is also being urged to contact police. People who find potentially relevant material should preserve it and pass it to officers rather than deleting or overwriting it.
