Avon and Somerset Police have widened their appeal for CCTV, doorbell-camera and dashcam footage after a man suffered significant head and facial injuries in a late-night assault in Yeovil.
The victim was walking when he was attacked by an unknown assailant between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July. He was taken to hospital for treatment after sustaining significant wounds to his face and head. Police said he has since been discharged and is recovering.
Appeal covers wider Yeovil route
Officers are asking residents and drivers to review recordings from St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue, Northbrook Road and the route towards Hawthorn Road, together with surrounding areas.
The attacker has not been identified. Police are also still investigating exactly where the assault happened, meaning officers have not confirmed one precise location for the attack.
Investigators are examining material that could help reconstruct the movements of both the victim and the unidentified attacker. They are working to establish the precise location, determine the route taken and identify the person responsible.
What footage could help?
House-to-house enquiries have been completed and available CCTV has been examined. However, police have stressed that the widened appeal does not mean the assault itself was captured on camera.
The force has not said that the attack appeared on any recording reviewed so far. Recordings made late on Saturday night and during the early hours of Sunday morning could nevertheless assist the investigation.
Police say images of people, vehicles or other activity may help officers build a sequence of events and trace movements before or after the assault. Footage does not need to show the attack itself to be useful.
Residents are being asked to check home-security systems and doorbell cameras. Drivers should review dashcam footage covering the named roads and nearby areas. Anyone who noticed suspicious behaviour in the area is also urged to contact police.
Anyone who finds potentially relevant material should preserve it and pass it to officers rather than deleting or overwriting it. Police are seeking recordings that could help them understand movements along the wider route.
