Avon and Somerset Police have widened their appeal for recordings after a man suffered serious head and facial injuries in a late-night assault in Yeovil. Officers are asking residents, drivers and witnesses to check CCTV, doorbell-camera and dashcam footage from a wider route around St John’s Road.
The attacker has not been identified, and the precise point where the assault happened remains uncertain. Police say the victim was walking when he was attacked by an unknown assailant between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July.
The man was taken to hospital for treatment for significant facial and head wounds. He has since been discharged and is recovering.
Where police want footage
Information currently held by police indicates that the incident happened somewhere along a route covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road. Because officers have not established the exact location, the appeal also includes surrounding areas between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road.
Recordings made from late on Saturday, 25 July, through to the early hours of Sunday, 26 July, could be relevant. Police are particularly interested in footage from:
- St John’s Road
- St Michael’s Avenue
- Northbrook Road
- Surrounding locations along the route between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road
Footage does not have to show the assault itself to be useful. Images of people, vehicles or other activity along the route could help investigators establish what happened and identify movements before or after the attack.
House-to-house enquiries continue
Officers have already carried out house-to-house enquiries and reviewed CCTV footage, but the investigation remains ongoing. Police want to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the assault and noticed suspicious behaviour.
Residents with home-security footage, people with doorbell-camera recordings and drivers whose dashcams captured the roads or nearby locations are all being asked to check their recordings. Anyone who finds potentially relevant footage should preserve it and pass it to police.
The appeal was issued while officers continue working to establish the precise location of the attack and identify the person responsible. Police have not said that the assault was captured on any recording reviewed so far.
