Avon and Somerset Police have widened their appeal for CCTV, doorbell-camera and dashcam footage after a man suffered significant head and facial injuries in a late-night assault in Yeovil. The attacker has not been identified, while officers are still working to establish the precise location of the attack.
Residents, drivers and witnesses are being asked to check recordings covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road. Police are also seeking footage from locations between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road as investigators try to establish the route taken and build a clearer account of what happened.
What happened in Yeovil?
The victim was walking when he was attacked by an unknown assailant between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July. He suffered significant facial and head wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police said the man has since been discharged and is recovering. The investigation remains ongoing as officers try to identify the person responsible and determine exactly where the assault took place.
The force has stressed that the wider appeal does not mean the assault itself was captured on camera. Officers have not said that the attack appeared on any recording reviewed so far. House-to-house enquiries have already been conducted and available CCTV footage has been examined.
Footage that could help the investigation
Recordings made late on Saturday night and during the early hours of Sunday morning could assist officers, even if they do not show the assault. Images of people, vehicles or other activity on the roads may help investigators establish the sequence of events and trace movements before or after the attack.
Residents in the area are being asked to check home-security systems and doorbell cameras. Drivers should review dashcam recordings covering the named roads and surrounding areas. Anyone who was nearby and noticed suspicious behaviour is also being urged to contact police.
Anyone who finds potentially relevant material should preserve it and pass it to officers. Footage that appears not to show the attack could still help investigators understand movements along the wider Yeovil route.
