Avon and Somerset Police have widened their appeal for CCTV, doorbell-camera and dashcam footage after a man suffered serious head and facial injuries in a late-night assault in Yeovil.
The force is asking residents, drivers and witnesses to check recordings from a wider route running between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road. Officers have not identified the attacker, and the precise point where the assault happened is still uncertain.
The victim was walking when he was attacked by an unknown assailant between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July, police said. He was taken to hospital for treatment for significant facial and head wounds, but has since been discharged and is recovering.
Where police want footage
Police information currently indicates that the incident happened somewhere along a route covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road. Because officers have not established the exact location, the appeal also includes surrounding areas between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road.
Recordings made from late on Saturday, 25 July, through to the early hours of Sunday, 26 July, could be relevant to the investigation. Officers are particularly interested in footage from:
- St John’s Road
- St Michael’s Avenue
- Northbrook Road
- Surrounding locations along the route between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road
Police said potentially useful evidence does not have to show the assault itself. Images of people, vehicles or other activity along the route could help investigators establish what happened and identify movements before or after the attack.
House-to-house enquiries continue
Officers have already carried out house-to-house enquiries and reviewed CCTV footage, but the investigation remains ongoing. They want to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the assault and noticed suspicious behaviour.
That includes residents who may have home security footage, people with doorbell-camera recordings and drivers whose dashcams captured the roads or surrounding locations. Anyone who finds potentially relevant footage is asked to preserve it and pass it to police.
The appeal was issued as officers continue to work to establish the precise location of the attack and identify the person responsible. Police have not said that the assault was captured on any recording reviewed so far.
