Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for witnesses and recordings after a man suffered substantial head and facial injuries in an assault in Yeovil. The victim was walking from St Michael’s Avenue towards Hawthorn Road during the early hours of Sunday, 26 July 2026.

Investigators believe the attack took place between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment, but has since been discharged and is recovering.

Where police believe the assault happened

Officers are examining a route encompassing St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road. Police said nearby streets could also contain information that helps establish what happened.

The appeal is aimed at anyone who was in the area during the short timeframe, including residents, motorists and other people travelling through Yeovil late on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning. Police are asking people to think back to anything they may have seen or heard.

Footage requested from residents and drivers

Investigators want people to review recordings covering late Saturday night through to early Sunday morning. They are particularly interested in:

  • home and business CCTV systems;
  • doorbell cameras; and
  • dashcam footage.

Police said footage should be checked even if owners are unsure whether anything recorded is connected to the assault. The force has specifically named St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road, along with nearby streets, in its request.

The investigation includes house-to-house enquiries and examination of CCTV from the area. Officers are continuing enquiries to identify the person responsible.
