A person died after a medical emergency at The Bell Inn on Preston Road, Yeovil. Emergency services were called to the pub at approximately 11.30am on Sunday 16 August.

Paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service attended alongside officers from Avon and Somerset Police. The Bell Inn was closed to customers while emergency responders dealt with the incident.

Police say death was non-suspicious

Avon and Somerset Police said the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene despite the swift response. The force said the circumstances surrounding the death were being treated as non-suspicious and confirmed that the coroner had been notified.

The deceased person’s family have been informed. Police said they were extending their condolences to the family following the death.

Why officers attended The Bell Inn

Police explained that officers attended because the incident happened in a public setting. Their presence was to support ambulance crews and did not indicate that the death was connected to criminal activity.

“Officers arrived to provide support to the paramedics, given the public setting of the incident. Our thoughts are with the family affected by this tragedy.”
