Yeovil Town will welcome referee Sunny Gill Singh back to Huish Park for Tuesday night’s National League Premier meeting with Worthing, with the official’s family connection to the ground adding a notable detail to the match appointment.

Gill Singh is the son of former referee Jarnail Singh, who received a standing ovation at Huish Park during his final match before retiring in 2010. Jarnail refereed the Glovers nine times in the English Football League and his two sons, Bhupsy and Sunny, have both gone on to qualify as match officials.

A return to Huish Park

Sunny Gill Singh last took charge of a Yeovil match in 2021, when the Glovers lost 2-1 at home to Wrexham. His performance during that game was criticised by then-manager Darren Sarll after play was not stopped for a head injury in the build-up to the equalising goal. Sarll described the display as “1 out of 100”, according to the match-officials report.

Gill Singh also refereed a behind-closed-doors fixture during the Covid season, when Yeovil won 3-0 away against Weymouth. The official sent off Yeovil player Jake McCarthy during that match.

Experience at higher levels

Although Gill Singh has not refereed many National League matches in recent seasons, his appointments have included Football League play-off games, England Under-20 fixtures and the 2024 Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Luton.

So far this season, he has overseen six matches. Across those games, he has booked 21 players, issued one red card and awarded one penalty, which was given to Swindon Town.
