Yeovil Town return to Huish Park on Tuesday night for a National League fixture against Worthing FC, with the match giving the Glovers a chance to build on an impressive away win at Kidderminster Harriers.
Billy Rowley’s side have played 10 matches and sit sixth in the table. They go into the midweek game after beating high-flying Kidderminster 1-0 away from home, with Johl Powell scoring again during a positive performance.
Yeovil were without their captain for that match because of what the preview described as “internal matters”. Despite the absence, the Glovers secured three points and head into the middle part of the season in a comfortable league position.
Worthing arrive in strong form
Worthing are ninth, just one point behind Yeovil, after going unbeaten in their last five matches. The visitors have won three of their most recent fixtures, including a 2-1 victory over FC Halifax in their latest game.
Joe Cook and former Yeovil player Jordan Young scored Worthing’s goals against Halifax. Away from home, the Rebels have also beaten Hartlepool 3-1 and collected three points at Carlisle United earlier in the season.
The last meeting between the clubs came at Huish Park in 2024, when Worthing won 3-1. Ollie Pearce opened the scoring and later added a second after Brad Dolaghan had doubled Worthing’s advantage. Alex Fisher pulled one back for Yeovil with five minutes remaining, but Pearce completed his brace.
Johl Powell the Yeovil player to watch
Midfielder Johl Powell has emerged as one of Yeovil’s main attacking threats after coming into the team a couple of games ago. The 26-year-old had initially been left out at the start of the season, with the form of other players one of the reasons given for his omission.
Since being given his opportunity, Powell has quickly rewarded Rowley’s trust. He has scored three goals in his last two matches, including two against Solihull Moors, and also found the net against Kidderminster.
The preview noted that Yeovil have missed McCormick’s goal contributions, but said Powell has been able to provide a similar attacking output. Powell’s performance against Solihull was described as his best in his short spell wearing the green and white, despite him coming on as late as the 84th minute.
Worthing’s experienced full-back and manager
Worthing’s key player is right-back Joel Colbran, who made his debut for the club in the 2016/17 season. Now 27, he is one of the senior members of the squad and has played all 900 minutes of the season.
Colbran has an 80% pass-completion rate, while the preview credits him with 10 ball recoveries and seven duels won per game. His reliability has made him an important foundation for Worthing’s play.
Worthing manager Adam Hinshelwood is 42 and has a long association with Sussex football. He made more than 100 appearances for Brighton & Hove Albion between 2002 and 2009 before also playing for Aldershot and Wycombe.
After retiring, Hinshelwood began his management career at Selsey. He later had two spells with Worthing, managed Hastings United and took charge of York City before returning to the Rebels. He has faced Yeovil three times as a manager, winning twice and losing once.
Former Glovers in the Worthing squad
Midfielder Tyrique Clarke began his career at Huish Park in 2018 after coming through Yeovil’s youth set-up. He was included in the squad for the club’s League Cup match against Aston Villa that year, although he did not make a senior first-team appearance, and left Yeovil in 2020.
Jordan Young is another familiar name to Yeovil supporters. He joined the Glovers from Chippenham Town in 2022 and became a fan favourite after settling in South Somerset. Young made 76 appearances for Yeovil and scored 15 goals before moving to Torquay.
Sunny Gill Singh is the appointed match official for Tuesday’s fixture. Kick-off is scheduled for the midweek evening meeting at Huish Park.
