Yeovil Town had to settle for a point after a 1-1 draw with newly promoted Worthing at Huish Park on Tuesday night.

The Glovers created a series of promising openings but fell behind in the 28th minute when Worthing forward Razzaq Coleman De Graft’s speculative effort slipped through goalkeeper Jos Barker’s hands. Yeovil responded immediately after the interval, with Brett McGavin’s free-kick finding the net after touching Worthing defender Joe Cook. The goal was recorded as a Cook own goal.

There were further opportunities for both teams during an open second half, but neither side could supply the decisive finish. The result came in the National League Premier Division fixture played on Tuesday 29 September 2026, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

Worthing threaten first at Huish Park

Yeovil had been instructed to make a quick start, but Worthing produced the first clear chance after only 30 seconds. A ball delivered from the right found Ricky Aguiar unmarked inside the area, although Barker made a superb save in the Yeovil goal.

The home side soon began to create chances of its own. After eight minutes, Ryan Jones picked out Johl Powell inside the box, but Powell’s attempt was blocked. Powell was involved again after 20 minutes, making a run down the right before sending a ball into a crowded penalty area, where a visiting defender headed it away.

Two minutes later, Jones again made progress through midfield and found Powell in a good position. This time, Worthing goalkeeper Taylor Seymour stopped the winger’s effort.

Worthing then came close when a quick move released Charley Kendall on the right side of the penalty area. His shot took a deflection off Jack Kingdon, clipped the crossbar and bounced to safety. Yeovil immediately went up the other end, where Jordan Norville-Williams struck the post after meeting a loose ball inside the area.

The opening goal arrived after several promising moves from both sides. Coleman De Graft shot from just outside the box in the 28th minute, with the ball appearing to be covered by Barker before it went through the goalkeeper’s hands and into the corner.

Worthing continued to look dangerous after taking the lead. Former Yeovil player Jordan Young sent a looping ball into the area, but defender Charlie Waller could not direct it towards goal. Young was booed by some home supporters during the first half.

Despite trailing, Yeovil received applause from the home support as the players went in at half-time. The match report described the performance as far from poor, with the goalkeeper’s error the main difference between the teams.

McGavin free-kick brings the Glovers level

Yeovil needed only 30 seconds of the second half to equalise. Clever play from Powell won a free-kick out on the left, and McGavin sent the delivery into a crowded penalty area. It was on target and came off Cook before entering the net.

McGavin claimed the goal, but the official match details listed it as a 47th-minute Cook own goal.

Powell almost put Yeovil ahead moments later when another Jones pass sent him towards the Worthing goal. Cook recovered to make a sensational last-ditch tackle and deny him.

There were chances at both ends as the game continued. Barker used his feet to block one Worthing effort, before Cook’s follow-up was kept out by a superb block from Radcliffe. Shortly before the hour, Young sent a free-kick over the bar from a position described as being in his usual range.

Powell then escaped at the other end and drove the ball across the face of an open goal, but Slavi Spasov could not turn it home.

Yeovil made a double substitution in the 64th minute, sending on Mason Obeng and Zain Westbrooke for Hayden Muller and James Daly. Ste Walker replaced Spasov ten minutes later.

Worthing also threatened to retake the lead. With 14 minutes of normal time remaining, Cory Adjetey-Brew appeared to have a shot destined for the net, but Kingdon threw himself in front of the effort to make an important defensive block.

Charlie Lennon replaced Powell with seven minutes of normal time remaining. Yeovil subsequently found it difficult to make the ball stick in forward areas, while Worthing appeared content to allow the match to drift towards a draw.

Neither side found the final touch needed to claim all three points. Players from both teams collapsed to the turf at the final whistle after a match in which both clubs had created enough opportunities to win.
