Yeovil Town were held to a 1-1 draw by Worthing at Huish Park after an intense encounter in which the Glovers created enough opportunities to claim all three points but could not find a winner.
The match was described as a thrilling contest, with both teams playing an open and attacking game. Yeovil were judged to have had the better chances, including two first-half opportunities for Johl Powell and repeated openings for Ryan Jones, who found spaces in which he could threaten the Worthing defence.
Missed chances prove costly
Just as Yeovil appeared close to breaking through, Worthing took the lead. Jos Barker, who had made an important save in the opening minute, allowed a soft effort to slip through his gloves.
The Glovers responded early in the second half when Brett McGavin’s free-kick restored parity. Despite continuing to pursue a winning goal, Yeovil were unable to complete the turnaround.
Powell’s performance was one of the main positives. After scoring three goals in two substitute appearances, he was given a starting place and looked comfortable and confident. His display included flicks, tricks and efforts at goal, reflecting the confidence gained from his recent scoring run.
Squad depth becomes a positive
The game also offered evidence that Yeovil are making increasing use of their squad. Hayden Muller, Powell, Jack Kingdon and James Daly were identified as players who looked capable of starting, while Ben Radcliffe continued to move in and out of the team.
Spasov worked hard, Ste Walker continued his return to fitness, and Zain Westbrooke, Charlie Lennon and Mason Obeng were also used. The assessment was that the squad’s depth, previously uncertain, is now producing contributions at an expected level.

Both sides finished the match exhausted after a tactical but highly competitive game. The open approach created spaces at both ends as each team looked for a winning goal, adding to the entertainment for supporters at Huish Park.
Supporters applauded at half-time despite Yeovil going in behind, and appreciation was also heard at the final whistle.
With September ending, the Glovers were sitting sixth after 11 games at the time of writing. The assessment of the campaign so far was positive: Yeovil have a new team and developing relationships, and have produced a mixture of strong results and good performances.
The season was described as just under a quarter complete, leaving Yeovil with a platform to build on as the campaign continues.
