Yeovil Town Women marked a significant four-day spell with two victories, including their first three points in the South West Regional Women’s League since promotion to Tier 5 last season.
The green and whites began with a 3-0 win against the Army Women’s Development Team in the UB Infrastructure Development League on Thursday night. The match was played on Huish Park’s 3G pitch, where Dave Court’s side produced a comfortable performance.
Three goals at Huish Park
Holly Meakins opened the scoring after six minutes with an effort from the edge of the box. Yeovil doubled their advantage after the interval when Becky Miles found the net with a strike described as even better than the opener.
Sophie Skilton then added a third with a powerful long-range drive, giving the Glovers a convincing victory and rounding off what was described as a fine evening’s work.
The result was the first of two wins in four days for Court’s team, who had little time to wait before returning to league action.
Comeback win at Gloucester City
Two days later, Yeovil travelled to Meadow Park to face Gloucester City. The venue carries recent significance for the club, as it was where the men’s National League South title was secured in 2023.
Yeovil came close to taking the lead in the 26th minute. Izzy Foster’s effort was denied by a spectacular double save from Gloucester goalkeeper Evie Smith, who recovered quickly to keep out the rebound.
Gloucester took advantage less than five minutes later. Holly Myatt delivered the ball across the area and Alaiya Beale finished at the far post to put the hosts ahead.
Yeovil responded immediately. Foster stole possession from the Gloucester defence and was brought down in the penalty area. Erin Bloomfield kept her composure to convert the resulting spot-kick.
Bloomfield completed the turnaround in the 64th minute, running on to a through ball before firing past Smith and into the bottom corner. The visitors then secured the win with five minutes remaining, when Roxy Hurford’s long-range free-kick deceived Smith.
Next fixture
Yeovil’s next fixture is at home to Dorset side Poole Town. The match is scheduled for Sunday 20 September, with a 2pm kick-off at Alvington.
The fixture follows a run that has brought two wins, three goals against the Army Women’s Development Team and Yeovil’s first league points since last season’s promotion.
