Jodi Cornwall provided the decisive moment as Yeovil Town Women secured a 2-1 derby victory over Sherborne Town at Alvington. The second-half goal completed a comeback win for Dave Court’s side and earned the Glovers all three points.

Yeovil made a lively start, with Sherborne goalkeeper Esme Lamb forced into action inside the opening 10 minutes. Izzy Foster tested her early on, while Keira Lane-Leney’s effort from the edge of the penalty area also required attention from Emily Hall at the other end.

Keira Ealson-Taylor went close when her effort flew just over the crossbar as both teams looked for the opening goal. The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, when Ealson-Taylor’s cross-shot sailed over Lamb and put Yeovil in front.

Sherborne level before half-time

The lead lasted fewer than 10 minutes. Sherborne’s Immy Miller capitalised on a slip in the Yeovil defence and beat Hall to bring the Zebras level.

Both sides continued to push after the interval in a closely balanced contest. Erin Bloomfield came close to restoring Yeovil’s advantage, but Lamb produced another strong save. At the other end, Lane-Leney forced Hall into a crucial intervention when the goalkeeper somehow kept out a shot that appeared destined for the top corner.

Cornwall settles the derby

With 15 minutes remaining, Cornwall created the winning moment. She turned quickly and shot from just outside the penalty area to put Yeovil back in front in the 75th minute.

The Glovers held on to complete the victory and respond to Thursday night’s 2-0 defeat against Wimborne in the UB Infrastructure Development League. The result followed a league win over Poole Town, a draw against Poole in the FA Cup that Yeovil won 4-1 on penalties, and earlier victories against Gloucester City and Portishead Ladies.
