Yeovil Town produced another emphatic performance on Saturday afternoon, sweeping aside Wealdstone 6-0 at Grosvenor Vale to extend their unbeaten National League run to six matches.

The victory was the Glovers’ second consecutive 6-0 win and continued a remarkable spell of form for the Yeovil side. Captain and midfielder Brett McGavin was at the centre of the result, scoring the first hat-trick of his career during a devastating second-half display.

Red card changes the game

The match shifted in Yeovil’s favour in the 25th minute, when Wealdstone goalkeeper Dante Baptiste was shown a straight red card. The dismissal followed a late challenge outside the penalty area and left the hosts facing the remainder of the match with 10 players.

Yeovil took advantage before the interval. James Daly broke the deadlock in the 34th minute, giving the visitors a lead they would not surrender.

After half-time, the Glovers turned control into a rout. Johl Powell doubled the advantage shortly after the hour mark before McGavin took over.

McGavin completes historic treble

McGavin scored twice in the space of three minutes, finding the net in the 67th and 70th minutes. He then completed his treble with a late strike in the 83rd minute, becoming the game’s defining figure.

Powell completed the scoring deep into stoppage time, adding Yeovil’s sixth goal and sealing another 6-0 success on the road.

Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Josh Perkins after the final whistle, McGavin said he was delighted to take home the match ball while praising the team’s performance.

“I don’t think I have to say how happy I am over the moon. Obviously I’m taking the match ball home, but what a performance from the team. So proud of everyone.”

Despite the scale of the win and the team’s momentum, the captain urged his team-mates to remain focused. Yeovil are preparing for upcoming FA Cup fixtures, and McGavin warned that the side could quickly be punished if it became complacent.

“Football will bite you on the bum if you’re not level-headed and humble about it. We’ve just won 6-0 and 6-0… we haven’t done anything yet. We’ve had a brilliant run, but we’ve just got to stay on it and stay humble.”

Captain praises Yeovil unity

McGavin also highlighted the unity and leadership running throughout the squad, praising the quality of the team from the back through to the attack. He specifically referred to Radders’ pass for one of the goals and credited the contribution of people across the club.

“You ask anyone who supports, plays for, works for Yeovil Town, the atmosphere and environment is absolutely brilliant. How can you not thrive in an environment like that? Right from the top, all the way to Chef Steve, like everyone’s just such incredible people and yeah, what a football club to play for.”

With the match ball secured after his landmark performance, McGavin and Yeovil Town will now look to carry their ruthless form into the FA Cup next weekend.
