Yeovil Town will be without defender Loick Ayina for three matches after the Football Association confirmed the reason for his red card in the 1-1 draw with Aldershot.
The suspension follows Ayina’s first-half dismissal in Tuesday night’s match. The defender was shown red after a challenge on Basil Tuma, with the FA classifying the incident under its Serious Foul Play rules.
What the suspension means
A three-game ban is the standard suspension for a dismissal recorded as Serious Foul Play, meaning Ayina is set to spend the next three matches on the sidelines. The suspension is a setback for the Glovers, with the player having only just returned to action.
Ayina, who is on loan from Salford City, was making his first appearance since Yeovil’s 3-2 win over Tamworth. His return instead ended early after the challenge that led to the red card.
Manager backs defender’s approach
After the match, manager Billy Rowley said he had not seen the tackle and therefore could not comment on exactly what it looked like. However, he said he felt for Ayina because the defender wanted to impress and show what he could do.
“I haven’t seen the tackle, so I don’t know what that looks like, but, I kind of feel for him, in a sense, because he just obviously wants to impress and show what he’s about, and I love that aggression as well. I want defenders that want to defend for their team, so I’ve got no bad words to say about Loick on that. It’s obviously a frustrating one, but that is what it is.”
The FA confirmation means Yeovil must now plan for a three-match spell without the Salford City loanee, while Ayina serves the standard punishment for Serious Foul Play.
