Yeovil Town’s FA Cup campaign remains alive after a dramatic 3-3 draw at Leatherhead, with the two sides set to meet again in a fourth qualifying round replay at Huish Park on Tuesday night.
The match at Fetcham Grove swung sharply after Yeovil appeared to be heading for a comfortable victory. The visitors controlled most of the opening hour, but Leatherhead recovered from a two-goal deficit and briefly looked capable of completing a giant-killing before Yeovil secured the draw.
A comfortable position turns into a fight for survival
Yeovil’s control was reflected in their possession and passing, and the visitors created enough opportunities to have put the tie beyond doubt before the hour. The match analysis highlighted chances for Archie Davies and Mason Obeng, as well as a missed penalty by captain Brett McGavin.
Had those opportunities been taken, Yeovil could have been four goals ahead by the 60-minute mark. Instead, Leatherhead pulled a goal back, gained momentum and exposed weaknesses in the Yeovil side.
The turnaround followed a series of changes on 58 minutes. Ryan Jones, James Daly, Ben Radcliffe and McGavin were withdrawn, while a central defender was moved into midfield. The assessment was that Yeovil lost their rhythm after the changes and struggled to regain control once the home side began to press.
Replay gives Yeovil another route into the FA Cup first round
Despite the late pressure, Yeovil avoided defeat and will now have home advantage in the replay. The winner will take place in the draw for the FA Cup first round proper, with the relevant draw position identified as Ball 68 for either Leatherhead or Yeovil Town.
The replay creates a midweek fixture for Yeovil, although their next league opponents, Altrincham, are also due to play a replay against FC United of Manchester. Leatherhead’s performance has added uncertainty to the contest: the analysis noted that the Surrey side have not lost away in 2026 and will need to reproduce their remarkable effort at Huish Park.
Chairman backs the team from the away end
Yeovil chairman Prabhu Srinivasan watched from the away end, continuing what the report described as regular appearances at recent matches. His presence among supporters at 2-0 was noted, as was his departure after Leatherhead levelled at 2-2.
For Yeovil, the immediate task is to recover from a match that appeared under control before becoming a tense cup battle. The replay on Tuesday offers another opportunity to reach the first round, but Leatherhead have already shown that the tie cannot be treated as settled before kick-off.
