Yeovil Town were brought back down to earth at Huish Park as AFC Fylde secured a convincing 4-1 victory over the Glovers.
Ian’s assessment for Gloverscast was that Yeovil were second best from the start, with Fylde controlling the contest and limiting the home side’s opportunities. Although the visitors recorded only four shots on goal, they were able to restrict much of Yeovil’s play, particularly when the Glovers tried to build from the back.
A missed chance and a costly second goal
Yeovil had a major opportunity to change the game shortly before half-time. With the score at 0-1 in the 44th minute, Archie Davies struck the post when he appeared likely to repeat his scoring contribution from the previous weekend at Southend.
Instead, Fylde scored again moments later. The goal halted Yeovil’s momentum and left the home side facing a two-goal deficit at the interval, highlighting the narrow margins that can shape matches in the National League.
Questions remain in attack
The performance also prompted fresh questions about Yeovil’s options up front. The two starting strikers offered contrasting displays across the match, but neither was able to provide the attacking solution the team needed.
Walker was withdrawn at half-time, allowing Yeovil to alter the way they pressed with Slavi introduced. Both players have different strengths, but the change did not unlock a way through a well-organised Fylde defence.
The assessment also raises the possibility of other attacking options, including James Daly, Charlie Lennon and Joe Haigh. The wider concern is that Yeovil lack a quick, mobile forward capable of changing the way opponents defend against them.
Fylde set the standard at Huish Park
Fylde were described as the best visiting team seen at Huish Park this season. Their effective press made it difficult for Yeovil to play out from the back, while their movement and organisation repeatedly unsettled the home side.
The visitors also took their chances when they came. Their performance reflected the momentum they carried after dominating the National League North last season, according to the Gloverscast analysis.
For Yeovil, the result was a reminder that the team remains a work in progress. Early results and a brief spell near the top of the table had raised expectations, but the latest two matches have shown that the squad is still developing as a unit.
Injuries to Ben Radcliffe and Joy Mukena added to the disruption against Fylde. There is little time for Yeovil to dwell on the defeat, with Aldershot and Solihull United scheduled to follow in another busy week and offering the Glovers an opportunity to regain form.
