Yeovil Town swept aside Radstock Town 7-0 at Huish Park on Tuesday night to reach the second round of the Francis Hillier Somerset Men’s Premier Cup.
The Glovers fielded a side packed with first-team experience, including eight recognised members of the National League squad. Goalkeeping coach Matt Gould also played, while Under-19s youngsters Archie Bryce and Liam Nardiello were included in the team. Manager Billy Rowley took charge from the dug-out.
Yeovil made the perfect start, taking the lead after just four minutes. Charlie Lennon played Mason Obeng through and Obeng opened the scoring. James Daly then doubled the advantage in the 16th minute, running beyond the Radstock defence before finishing.
Ste Walker, returning after missing the previous two matches through illness, headed in Lennon’s cross two minutes later. Walker had the chance to add another when he was fouled inside the penalty area, but visiting goalkeeper Tom Crouch saved his spot-kick in the 24th minute.
Four-goal first half gives Yeovil control
Yeovil continued to dominate and added a fourth shortly before the half-hour mark. Lennon, who is on loan from Barnsley, was found by Johl Powell and turned the ball home at the back post.
The result was already effectively settled by half-time, but Yeovil made three changes during the interval and continued to attack after the restart. Ryan Jones made an immediate impact, scoring seven minutes into the second half after beating the offside trap, rounding Crouch and finishing.
Radstock were also helped by the woodwork as efforts from Jones and Walker struck the post shortly after the hour mark. Walker then saw another opportunity denied by Crouch after Powell had picked him out.
Late goals complete emphatic cup win
Walker was replaced by Slavi Spasov in the 67th minute. The Bulgarian headed Yeovil’s sixth goal four minutes after the 70-minute mark, although he later saw an effort rebound off the post.
Under-19s midfielder Ashton Brown came on for Powell with 10 minutes remaining. With five minutes left, Jones set up Obeng for his second goal of the night and Yeovil’s seventh.
Obeng and Jones both scored twice, while Daly, Walker, Lennon and Spasov also found the net. The attendance at Huish Park was 417.
Club captain Luke McCormick was not involved. The midfielder had also been left out of the starting line-up for Yeovil’s previous match, a 4-1 home win over Solihull Moors, amid transfer speculation. Ste Walker’s return was one of the notable team developments after his recent illness.
