Yeovil Town delivered a statement performance at Huish Park on Saturday, sweeping aside Boston United 6-0 in an emphatic display of attacking quality and clinical finishing.
The result was described as one of the Glovers’ most complete performances of the season. James Daly, who played a key role in the victory, said the scale of the win reflected a level of performance the squad had been working towards for several weeks.
Four goals in 12 minutes put Yeovil in control
Boston goalkeeper Cameron Chadwick made a couple of important saves during a brief early spell, keeping the hosts from taking an immediate lead. Yeovil did not allow that to unsettle them, remaining composed until Ryan Jones opened the scoring.
Once the first goal arrived, the match changed rapidly. Yeovil scored four times in a frantic 12-minute spell, effectively settling the contest before half time. The attacking burst showcased the finishing instinct the team had been seeking after creating numerous chances in recent weeks.
Daly said the squad had discussed the possibility of producing a high-scoring performance during the week, while stressing that the outcome was based on Yeovil reaching its expected level rather than underestimating Boston United.
“We’ve been speaking about it all week, actually. The gaffer’s been onto us really to say, ‘Look, if we’re at our level, we can put a few goals past these.’ That’s no disrespect to Boston, it’s just where I think we are. We’ve been creating a lot of chances in recent weeks, so it was just putting it together and having that killer instinct.”
Daly gets off the mark after Jones creates space
Daly completed his own contribution with a well-taken strike, following a sweeping diagonal pass from Jones. He had stayed wide to take advantage of the space available before finishing into the corner.
The goal also reflected the understanding between the two players. Daly explained that Jones’ tendency to move inside opens the game for teammates, allowing him to remain wide and attack the space.
“Jonesy is so good at coming inside the pitch and opening the game up for us. As soon as he’s got the ball, I know to stay wide and create space. It came to me and I just thought, ‘Right, I need a shot here,’ and it went in the corner. I was ecstatic to get off the mark.”
For Daly, the goal was particularly significant because it was his first for Yeovil, adding a personal highlight to an already dominant afternoon.
‘Best dressing room’ praised after turnaround
Daly attributed Yeovil’s ability to overwhelm opponents to the quality and togetherness within the squad. He said the group knows what it can produce when its attacking, defensive and collective work comes together.
“We’ve got so much quality in this team, and it’s probably the best dressing room in terms of quality that I’ve ever been in. We all know what we’re capable of, and when we put things together like that, we know we can do that.”
He also pointed to the contribution of people away from the pitch, including the kit team and back-office staff. Daly said their work gives the players the platform to perform, describing the recent improvement as a long-term collective project rather than a one-off result.
“It’s a team effort. This isn’t a fluke; this is work we’ve been building on for months. We know how to replicate it, which is the main thing.”
Yeovil Town will now aim to carry the momentum and ruthless attacking edge from the Boston win into the remainder of the season.
