Yeovil Town moved just inside the National League Premier Division play-off positions after a 4-1 victory over Solihull Moors at Huish Park on Friday, 18 September 2026.

The Glovers led at half-time through Ryan Jones and extended their advantage when Slavi Spasov finished from close range shortly after the interval. Solihull Moors pulled one back through a goal credited as a Jos Barker own goal, but Yeovil responded immediately through Johl Powell before Powell added a fourth in the seventh minute of added time.

The result followed a match that became increasingly open late on. Yeovil had created several chances before the break, survived a period of pressure from the visitors early in the second half and then regained control before the final, eventful stages.

Jones gives Yeovil the lead

The opening exchanges were scrappy, but Yeovil produced the first clear attacking moments. Ryan Jones sent a cross from the right towards James Daly, who had initially slipped while trying to reach the delivery. The ball was recycled and returned to Daly, whose cross found Slavi Spasov. Spasov’s header did not trouble the goalkeeper and the assistant referee’s flag was raised.

Solihull created their first notable opportunity after seven minutes. A long ball towards Jacob Wakeling was controlled well by the forward, who attempted a delicate lob over Yeovil goalkeeper Jos Barker. The effort cleared Barker but went wide of the post.

Jones continued to look threatening on Yeovil’s right. After nine minutes he created space from around 20 yards and struck at goal, although the visiting goalkeeper dealt with the attempt. Two minutes later, Archie Davies found room after a pass from Hayden Muller, but his shot flashed wide of the near post.

Yeovil broke the deadlock after 15 minutes. Play broke down in midfield and Jones collected the ball on the right side of the penalty area. He took several touches with his left foot, dropped his shoulder and found the far corner to put the home side ahead.

The Glovers almost doubled their lead immediately. Jones was involved again, sending the ball inside for Zain Westbrooke, but the former Scunthorpe player saw his effort smothered and turned behind for a corner.

Daly then threatened from the left. He burst past his marker and worked an opportunity, but the angle narrowed before he could finish and his shot was deflected wide. Soon afterwards, a Brett McGavin pass was nodded back towards the goalkeeper and Daly reached the ball quickly, although he was caught between attempting a cross and a shot. Spasov was unable to convert.

Yeovil’s fifth corner of the half created another opening as the hosts continued to apply pressure. The final 10 minutes before the interval were more even, with both sides trying to force a significant chance. Wakeling remained Solihull’s main threat, but the visitors could not produce an effort of real consequence.

McGavin had a shot from distance before the interval, which ended with Yeovil 1-0 ahead. The home side were left frustrated that their pressure had not produced a larger advantage.

Spasov doubles the advantage

Solihull started the second half with greater energy. The visitors found opportunities to get shots away, while Yeovil struggled to make their passing game work. Joe Sbarra’s low effort after 50 minutes was the only early attempt that seriously tested the flow of the game.

Yeovil soon restored their attacking momentum. Jones helped start the move, the ball broke to McGavin and the midfielder found Daly wide on the left. Daly delivered a whipped cross into the area, where it fell to Spasov. The forward finished from only a matter of inches to make it 2-0 after 57 minutes.

The second goal sparked a sustained spell of pressure. Westbrooke saw one effort scrambled away and another blocked, while a cross from Davies somehow evaded everyone. The match briefly stopped while Solihull goalkeeper Nat Ford received treatment after a collision in his own penalty area.

Ryan Woods was booked after hauling down Archie Davies, who had been making another forward run. Woods was then substituted, with Solihull manager appearing concerned that he could receive a second caution. Later, Ben Worman was also cautioned for a foul on Jones and was replaced.

McGavin won a free-kick after being fouled and eventually received the ball again, but his left-footed attempt from 30 yards went high and wide. Westbrooke then found another opportunity from 12 yards, which was scrambled away, before a further effort was blocked.

Late drama at Huish Park

With less than 10 minutes of normal time remaining, Yeovil made two changes. Johl Powell and Charlie Lennon came on for Jones and Spasov. The substitutions gave Solihull an opportunity to regroup, and the visitors worked the ball towards a corner after Joe Sbarra’s cross-shot came to nothing more than a set piece.

That corner produced an unexpected lifeline for Solihull. The delivery was whipped in under the goalkeeper’s nose and somehow squirmed through into the goal. The match report attributed the goal to Barker as an own goal in the 87th minute, reducing Yeovil’s lead to 2-1.

Yeovil responded almost immediately. Westbrooke, Lennon and Powell combined down the right, with Powell completing the move to score his first ever goal for the Glovers in the 88th minute.

There were eight minutes of added time. Muller received a tactical yellow card, while Jordan Norville-Williams produced a strong run down the left that ended with a shot on goal. Mason Obeng then replaced Westbrooke and subsequently linked up with Powell, who completed the scoring in the 97th minute.

The final whistle confirmed a 4-1 win, with Powell’s late double ensuring that Solihull’s own goal did not threaten to change the outcome.
