Police are appealing for witnesses and video footage after a man suffered serious head and facial injuries in a late-night assault on a route between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road in Yeovil.
The incident happened between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July, according to Avon and Somerset Police. The victim was walking when he was attacked by an unknown assailant.
Where the assault happened
Police have not identified the precise point of the attack. Officers believe it took place somewhere along a path covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road.
The uncertainty over the exact location means officers are asking people with recordings from the wider area to check them carefully. The appeal covers the route between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road, as well as the roads named in the police information.
Footage sought from Yeovil residents and drivers
Avon and Somerset Police have carried out house-to-house enquiries and reviewed CCTV footage, but the investigation remains ongoing. Officers want to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the assault and saw suspicious behaviour.
Residents, drivers and anyone else who was nearby are being asked to check recordings made between late on Saturday, 25 July, and the early hours of Sunday, 26 July. Potentially useful evidence could come from:
- CCTV systems;
- doorbell cameras; and
- dashcams.
Police are particularly interested in footage covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue, Northbrook Road and surrounding locations. Even recordings that do not show the assault itself could assist officers investigating what happened along the route.
Victim discharged from hospital
The man was taken to hospital for treatment for significant facial and head wounds. He has since been discharged and is recovering.
The unknown attacker has not been identified in the information supplied for the appeal, and the precise location remains under investigation. The police appeal is part of the continuing investigation into the assault.
