Avon and Somerset Police have widened their appeal for CCTV, doorbell-camera and dashcam footage after a man was seriously injured during a late-night assault in Yeovil. The attacker has not been identified, and officers have not yet established the precise location of the incident.
Residents, drivers and witnesses are being asked to check recordings covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road. Investigators also want footage from nearby locations between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road as they work to establish the route taken and build a clearer picture of what happened.
What happened on the Yeovil route?
The victim was walking when he was attacked by an unknown assailant between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July. He suffered significant facial and head wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police said the man has since been discharged and is recovering. The investigation remains ongoing as officers try to identify the person responsible and determine exactly where the assault took place.
Police have stressed that the wider footage appeal does not mean the assault itself has been recorded. Officers have not said that the attack appeared on any recording examined so far. House-to-house enquiries have already been carried out, and available CCTV footage has been reviewed.
