Avon and Somerset Police have widened their appeal for CCTV, doorbell-camera and dashcam footage after a man suffered serious head and facial injuries in a late-night assault in Yeovil.
The attacker has not been identified and officers have not established the precise point where the assault happened. Investigators are therefore asking people to check recordings from a wider route covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road, as well as nearby locations between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road.
What happened on the Yeovil route?
The victim was walking when he was attacked by an unknown assailant between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July. He was taken to hospital for treatment for significant facial and head wounds.
Police said the man has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering. The investigation remains ongoing while officers work to establish exactly where the assault took place and identify the person responsible.
Police appeal for recordings and witnesses
Footage recorded from late on Saturday night through to the early hours of Sunday morning could help the investigation. It does not need to show the assault itself. Images of people, vehicles or other activity on the roads may help officers establish what happened and trace movements before or after the attack.
Residents with home-security systems, people with doorbell cameras and drivers whose dashcams captured the roads or surrounding areas are being asked to review their recordings. Anyone who finds potentially relevant footage should preserve it and pass it to police.
Officers have already carried out house-to-house enquiries and reviewed CCTV footage. However, police have not said that the assault was captured on any recording reviewed so far.
Anyone who was in the area around the time of the assault and noticed suspicious behaviour is also being asked to come forward. Information can be given to Avon and Somerset Police by calling 101 and quoting reference 5226211622. Information can also be submitted through the force’s online appeals form.
