Avon and Somerset Police have widened an appeal for CCTV, doorbell-camera and dashcam footage after a man suffered serious head and facial injuries in a late-night assault in Yeovil.

The attacker has not been identified, and officers have not established the precise point where the assault happened. Police are therefore asking residents, drivers and witnesses to check recordings from a wider route covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road, as well as nearby locations between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road.

What happened in Yeovil?

The victim was walking when he was attacked by an unknown assailant between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July. He was taken to hospital for treatment for significant facial and head wounds.

Police said the man has since been discharged from hospital and is recovering. The force has not identified the attacker, and its investigation remains ongoing.

Police want recordings from the wider route

Footage recorded from late on Saturday night through to the early hours of Sunday morning could help investigators. Recordings do not need to show the assault itself. Images of people, vehicles or other activity along the roads could assist officers in establishing what happened and tracing movements before or after the attack.

  • St John’s Road
  • St Michael’s Avenue
  • Northbrook Road
  • Surrounding locations along the route between St Michael’s Avenue and Hawthorn Road

Residents with home-security systems, people with doorbell cameras and drivers whose dashcams captured the roads or nearby areas are being asked to review their recordings. Anyone who finds potentially relevant footage should preserve it and pass it to police.

Officers have already carried out house-to-house enquiries and reviewed CCTV footage. However, police have not said that the assault was captured on any recording reviewed so far. They are continuing to work to establish the precise location of the attack and identify the person responsible.

How to contact Avon and Somerset Police
