Avon and Somerset Police have widened their appeal for late-night CCTV, doorbell-camera and dashcam footage after a man suffered significant head and facial injuries in an assault on a route through Yeovil.
The force is asking residents, drivers and witnesses to check recordings covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue, Northbrook Road and the route towards Hawthorn Road. The attacker has not been identified, and officers are still investigating where the assault happened.
What happened in Yeovil
The victim was walking when he was attacked by an unknown assailant between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July. He suffered significant wounds to his face and head and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Police said the man has since been discharged and is recovering. Investigators are working to establish the precise location of the assault, determine the route taken and identify the person responsible.
The appeal covers the four named roads and surrounding areas. Police have not identified one confirmed location for the assault, and the roads are being searched for material that could help reconstruct the movements of both the victim and the unidentified attacker.
Footage could help reconstruct the route
House-to-house enquiries have been completed and available CCTV has been examined. However, police have stressed that the wider appeal does not mean the assault itself was captured on camera. The force has not said that the attack appeared on any recording reviewed so far.
Recordings made late on Saturday night and during the early hours of Sunday morning could still help. Images of people, vehicles or other activity may allow officers to build a sequence of events and trace movements before or after the assault.
Residents are being asked to check home-security systems and doorbell cameras. Drivers should review dashcam footage covering St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue, Northbrook Road and nearby areas. Anyone who noticed suspicious behaviour nearby is also urged to contact police.
Anyone who finds potentially relevant material should preserve it and pass it to officers. Police say footage does not need to show the assault itself to help investigators understand movements along the wider Yeovil route.
