Avon and Somerset Police are appealing for witnesses, CCTV and other recordings after a man suffered serious head and facial injuries in an assault in Yeovil.

The attack happened during the early hours of Sunday, 26 July 2026, while the victim was walking from St Michael’s Avenue towards Hawthorn Road. Police believe the incident took place between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July.

Where police believe the assault happened

Officers believe the assault took place along a route encompassing St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road. Nearby streets may also hold information that could assist the investigation.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area during the short timeframe to think back to anything they may have seen or heard. The appeal is aimed at residents, motorists and anyone else who was travelling through the area late on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment for substantial facial and head injuries. According to the appeal, he has since been discharged and is recovering.

Camera footage requested

Investigators are seeking recordings covering late Saturday night through to early Sunday morning. They want people to check footage from:

  • home and business CCTV systems;
  • doorbell cameras; and
  • dashcams.

Residents and motorists are being asked to review their systems even if they are unsure whether a recording is connected to the assault. Police have specifically named St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road, as well as nearby streets, in their request.

The investigation includes house-to-house enquiries and the examination of CCTV footage from the area. Officers are continuing enquiries to identify the person responsible.
