Police are asking Yeovil residents, motorists and anyone travelling through the area to check CCTV, doorbell cameras and dashcam footage after a man suffered substantial head and facial injuries in an assault.

The incident happened during the early hours of Sunday, 26 July 2026, as the victim walked from St Michael’s Avenue towards Hawthorn Road. Avon and Somerset Police believe the assault took place between 11.50pm on Saturday, 25 July, and 12.05am on Sunday, 26 July.

Where police believe the assault happened

Officers are examining a route encompassing St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road. Nearby streets could also contain information that helps investigators establish what happened.

The appeal is directed at anyone who was in the area during the short timeframe, including local residents, drivers and other people passing through late on Saturday night or early on Sunday morning. Police are asking people to think back to anything they may have seen or heard.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment. Police said he suffered substantial facial and head injuries, but has since been discharged and is recovering.

Footage requested from Yeovil residents and drivers

Investigators want recordings covering late Saturday night through to early Sunday morning. They are asking people to review footage from:

  • home and business CCTV systems;
  • doorbell cameras; and
  • dashcams.

Police said people should check their recordings even if they are unsure whether anything captured is connected to the assault. The force has specifically named St John’s Road, St Michael’s Avenue and Northbrook Road, together with nearby streets, in its request.

The investigation includes house-to-house enquiries and the examination of CCTV footage from the area. Officers are continuing enquiries to identify the person responsible.
