Yeovil Town midfielder and former captain Luke McCormick has joined National League Premier Division rivals AFC Fylde on loan until 13 January 2027, in a move that takes the 27-year-old away from Huish Park for the coming months.

The deal follows a period in which McCormick has not featured regularly for the Glovers. His most recent appearance came as a second-half substitute in Yeovil’s 1-1 draw at Aldershot Town a month ago.

Yeovil manager Billy Rowley previously described the circumstances as “a disciplinary problem”. He later said that he and McCormick had experienced “a bit of a dispute”, while making clear that the midfielder had not asked to leave the club.

What Yeovil Town said about the move

Yeovil confirmed the loan in a statement posted on Thursday evening. The club said an agreement had been reached following internal discussions, allowing McCormick to continue playing for AFC Fylde during the next few months.

“We can confirm that Luke McCormick has joined National League side AFC Fylde on loan until 13th January 2027.
“Following internal discussions, an agreement has been reached that allows Luke to continue playing his football with AFC Fylde for the coming months.”

McCormick started the season in strong form for Yeovil, scoring six goals in his opening six matches. His sixth goal was a consolation in a 4-1 defeat by Fylde at Huish Park in mid-September.

He had been named Yeovil’s club captain at the beginning of the season. In an update at the start of the month, Rowley said the player had never asked to leave Huish Park.

McCormick joins Fylde promotion contenders

Fylde were sitting seventh in the National League Premier Division when the move was announced. They were three places and two points behind Yeovil in the table.

Fylde were promoted last season after winning the National League North title and have started the current campaign strongly. McCormick said he was pleased to join a club “on the up” and hoped to contribute to a group that was already competing in the play-off places.

“I’m really happy to be here, it’s a club on the up having been promoted last year and have started the season excellently, so much so that we’re in the play-offs so I’m just hoping to add to what is a brilliant group already and hopefully we can have a successful period.”

Fylde manager Craig Mahon said McCormick’s technical ability suited the club’s style. He also highlighted the midfielder’s comfort in possession and his record of scoring from midfield.

“Luke is a player whose technical ability fits perfectly with the way we want to play at Fylde. He’s comfortable on the ball, has real quality in possession and, importantly, has goals in his game from midfield. We believe he’ll add another dimension to the team and we’re delighted to bring him to the club.”

Rowley had previously said his responsibility was to do what he believed was best for the team and dressing room, adding that McCormick would not be playing for him at that point. The midfielder later referred on social media to his “love and respect” for everyone connected with Yeovil Town.
