Yeovil Town left Aggborough with all three points after substitute Johl Powell struck late to settle a hard-fought National League Premier Division contest against Kidderminster Harriers.

The match finished Kidderminster Harriers 0, Yeovil Town 1 after Powell scored in the 74th minute. The midfielder had replaced Zain Westbrooke seven minutes earlier and ran on to a through ball from striker Slavi Spasov before calmly placing his finish past the goalkeeper.

Yeovil create the clearer first-half openings

Yeovil made the brighter start, with the first significant chances falling to the visitors. James Daly used his pace on the left to get a shot away, while Ryan Jones then picked out Westbrooke with a pass. Westbrooke attempted to lob the goalkeeper but sent his effort wide.

Kidderminster came close on 15 minutes when Callum Stewart’s cross from the left found Callum Dolan at the far post. Yeovil goalkeeper Jos Barker produced a superb block at close range to keep the hosts out.

Jones continued to pose a threat, dribbling beyond several challenges before shooting narrowly wide after his effort clipped the post. His combination play with Westbrooke and Brett McGavin also helped Yeovil move the ball effectively as the first half progressed.

Despite the attacking exchanges, neither side broke the deadlock before the interval, with the score 0-0 at half-time.

Powell decides the contest

Kidderminster returned from the break with greater purpose and controlled much of the opening 20 minutes of the second half. However, the home side’s pressure did not produce a save from Barker during that spell.

Yeovil made a change when Joe Gubbins, booked a minute after half-time, was replaced by Ben Radcliffe in the 53rd minute. Twelve minutes later, Westbrooke played McGavin into a promising position, but his shot was blocked by David Davis.

Barker was called upon again in the 71st minute. Dolan delivered a deep cross towards Lewis Walker, whose header was superbly pushed away by the young Yeovil goalkeeper.

Three minutes later, Yeovil made the breakthrough. Spasov’s well-weighted pass sent Powell through on goal, and the substitute had time to compose himself before slotting home what proved to be the winning goal.
