Johl Powell says he is ready to take his next opportunity for Yeovil Town after making a decisive impact from the substitutes’ bench in the club’s 4-1 home victory over Solihull Moors.
The 25-year-old midfielder scored twice during a six-minute substitute appearance at the end of last Friday’s match. The goals came after a difficult run for Yeovil, who had not won for several games before beating Solihull.
Powell has started only once this season. His other seven appearances in green and white have come from the bench, but he believes manager Billy Rowley understands what he can bring to the team.
“I have known (the manager) for a while now and he knows what I can do and when I get the opportunities I have to keep showing what I can do, score goals and hopefully that will get me more game time.”
Powell was one of three players to follow Rowley from Walton & Hersham during the summer. His latest performance gives him a strong case for more minutes as Yeovil prepare for their weekend trip to Kidderminster Harriers.
Powell focused on Yeovil’s promotion hopes
Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Ed Hadwin on Thursday, ahead of the Kidderminster match, Powell said the squad was in good spirits after the Solihull result.
“It was a good win (against Solihull), we obviously had not won for a few games, so it was important we got that win and now we are looking ahead of to (Kidderminster) on Saturday. The boys are in good spirits and we are looking forward to it.”
The midfielder also said Yeovil’s ambition was to remain around the play-off places for as long as possible during the season.
“When you look at our squad we obviously want to be in and around those play-off places come the end of the season, if we can stay there for as long as we can we give ourselves the best chance possible. Whether I am starting or coming off the bench, I am going to make sure I am ready for whatever minutes I get.”
