Jack Kingdon says he is “really proud” after making his full Yeovil Town debut in the Glovers’ 4-1 victory over Solihull Moors at Huish Park on Friday night.
The defender started the match and completed 90 minutes as Yeovil produced a convincing performance in front of their home supporters. Speaking to BBC Somerset’s Jack Killah, Kingdon described the occasion as an amazing and surreal experience.
Kingdon praises Yeovil’s performance
Kingdon said the result reflected a strong display across the team, with the back line, midfield and forwards contributing to an effective pressing performance. He said Yeovil were able to “lock” Solihull Moors up quickly after starting the press.
The appearance was particularly significant for Kingdon, who said he had worked hard to earn his first start and a full 90 minutes. He also praised the quality within the squad, saying competition for places meant there were no guaranteed shirts and that every player was capable of contributing.
Defender hopes to keep his place
With Ben Radcliffe, Loick Ayina, Joy Mukena and Dan Ellison unavailable to the manager, Kingdon will hope the performance gives him the opportunity to remain in the team.
He acknowledged that staying in the side would be difficult, but said it was now his chance to “stamp my authority” and keep his place. Kingdon also credited Billy Rowley for recognising the patience required while waiting for an opportunity, describing the manager’s words as an extra boost.
The defender also reserved praise for the Yeovil supporters. He said the fans had come in numbers, continued cheering and created the feeling of an “extra man” at Huish Park, including after Yeovil scored.
For Kingdon, the victory combined a first full start with an important team result and a memorable night in front of the home crowd.
