Brett McGavin was voted Yeovil Town’s man of the match after the Glovers beat Tamworth 3-2 in a dramatic Bank Holiday Monday fixture.
The victory gave Yeovil another three points, although the scoreline did not reflect the full drama of the match. The game included a disallowed goal and a Tamworth penalty miss in stoppage time before the Glovers secured the win.
McGavin leads the supporters’ vote
McGavin topped the supporters’ poll with 87 votes, representing 55.8 per cent of the 156 responses. The midfielder was praised for controlling the game from the centre of the pitch, with his assist for Yeovil’s opening goal singled out as a particular highlight.
Yeovil’s captain, who scored that opening goal, finished second in the voting. Goalkeeper JB1 was placed third, completing the leading three players from the Tamworth match.
The result continued a strong run of player-of-the-match performances for McGavin, who had already finished first in the vote after Yeovil’s 2-2 August home match against Barrow. He received 114 votes, or 65.1 per cent, on that occasion.
August award goes to Jos Barker
Although McGavin won the Tamworth vote, Jos Barker finished top of the overall August player-of-the-month standings after 780 votes were cast.
Barker collected eight points and two man-of-the-match awards. Jordan Norville-Williams was second with seven points and one man-of-the-match award, while Luke McCormick finished third with five points and no wins in the monthly vote.
The August match-by-match results show how the standings developed. Norville-Williams won the opening vote against Scunthorpe with 91 votes, equal to 70 per cent of responses. Barker then led the polls against Carlisle United and Barrow, while Ryan Jones was the winner after the Gateshead match.
Yeovil’s next scheduled fixtures
The published fixture list shows Yeovil scheduled to face Southend United on 5 September, followed by AFC Fylde on 12 September and Aldershot on 15 September. Solihull Moors, Kidderminster Harriers and Worthing are listed as the remaining September opponents.
Further fixtures in the published schedule include Boston United, Wealdstone, Altrincham, Hornchurch and FC Halifax Town in October. The list runs through to Yeovil’s final scheduled April fixtures against Hartlepool United and Harrogate Town.
For Yeovil supporters, the Tamworth result provided both an important league win and another indication of the players attracting the strongest backing in the club’s regular fan voting.
